Another testimony of Divine Providence

Steve O. Alabi

When we talk about Divine Providence, we are acknowledging the hand of God in our lives, guiding, and providing in ways we often cannot foresee. My family's recent experience is a testament to this, a story of faith, answered prayers, and incredible blessings.

For years, our prayers centred on our children's future, especially their spiritual and marital lives. As Catholic parents, we longed for our children to find spouses who shared our faith and values. God, in His infinite wisdom and timing, answered those prayers beyond our expectations.

Late last, our twin daughters formally brought home their future husbands, both with Catholic lineages. Seeing their relationships blossom into engagements was a joyous confirmation that God had heard our prayers. However, the joy was soon accompanied by the daunting realization that both weddings were set for the same date. The economic situation in Nigeria, marked by inflation and financial challenges, made the prospect of funding two weddings simultaneously seem daunting.

But God, who knows our needs even before we ask, had already begun making provisions. A year earlier, we had unexpectedly come into some savings from previous jobs. At the time, we had no specific plans for these funds, but they became the financial bedrock for the weddings. It was as if God had seen ahead and made sure we were prepared for this moment.

To add to this blessing, the support from our extended family, friends, schoolmates, and relations was overwhelming. Unexpected financial contributions and generous gifts poured in, easing the financial burden significantly. It was a powerful reminder of the community’s love and God’s provision, manifesting through the generosity of those around us.

As the wedding day approached, our worries about coordination, costs, and turnout faded in the light of Divine Providence. On the day itself, over six hundred guests arrived to celebrate with us. It felt reminiscent of the biblical miracle of feeding the 5,000, where Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes. Our home overflowed with joy, love, and community, as friends and family came together in a remarkable show of support and celebration.

The ceremonies were nothing short of miraculous. From the traditional wedding ceremonies on Friday to the solemn wedding Mass, and finally the lively reception, everything went off without a hitch. Each event was full of moments of grace and joy, underscoring the presence of God in every detail.

Reflecting on this incredible experience, we as Catholics are reminded that God's provision is often beyond our immediate understanding. He anticipates our needs and answers our prayers in His perfect timing. Our family's story is a powerful reminder that when we trust in Divine Providence, we as Christians are never alone and we always cared and provided for by God.

Even now, after the weddings, God's blessings continue to flow. Our daughters and their new husbands are starting their married lives with a solid foundation of faith, and we see His hand guiding them every step of the way.

In sharing this testimony, my hope is to encourage others to trust in God's provision. No matter the challenges or uncertainties, He is always at work, preparing blessings that we might not yet see. Our journey through these weddings has strengthened our faith and reminded us of the incredible power of prayer and trust in Divine Providence.
