What’s Stopping You?
By Dan Zadra

Always know in your heart that you are far bigger than anything that can happen to you.-Dan Zadra

You’ve heard it before ... sometimes, bad things happen to good people. People get sick, lose jobs, get divorced, have financial problems, raise troubled kids, suffer from depression and there are a multitude of other things that can go wrong in life. Sooner or later we all face some kind of trouble. If you get a message that you have been sent a cash gift of $5,000 by a distant relation abroad through and the offer was valid for only one day otherwise it will be returned, would you go to collect it? What if on your way to the bank you encounter a severe traffic jam caused by a fatal accident, which lasted for four hours?

Would you stay put in the traffic jam with a belief that you would get to the bank on time? What if the problem is not resolved until 3:15pm? Would you have forgotten about the money and gone home, saying maybe the money wasn’t meant for you or would you have found an alternative means of getting to the bank? If I were in such a situation, I would have decided on an alternative long before midday.

I would have even resorted to walking to the bank if there was no other means of getting out of the area. The simple lesson I am passing on is that you must concentrate on your goal, but change strategies for achieving it whenever necessary. Don't be fooled, you will meet tremendous challenges and distractions between you and your goal. There is no room for giving up.

What does it take to get past some of the heartache that we all surely experience? I recently saw the movie Men of Honour and was engrossed with one man’s quest to be all he could be in his life. Many seemingly insurmountable obstacles were thrown in his path and, yet, he kept finding ways to go where he wanted life to take him.

What does it take to keep the faith, find the good in circumstances and continue on your journey through life? I have found it takes healthy doses of the following elements to press on.

1. A sense of purpose. People who continue on know who they are and what they bring to the table. They also know that success is cumulative and that a person is not the sum or his successes or failures, but rather a total sum of his how his mind, body and spirit operate.

Self-esteem- an estimation of who I am apart from what I do. -Nathaniel Brandon

2. The ability to see the big picture and keep a positive attitude. Troubles and turmoil are often the steppingstones to greater and bigger dreams. This is difficult to see in the midst of trouble, but having even the smallest mustard seed of faith will help propel you forward. Think positive!

No pessimist ever discovered the secret of the stars, or sailed to uncharted land, or opened a new doorway for the human spirit.-Helen Keller

3. Perseverance and support. When you know who you are meant to be, the only way to be that person is to keep pressing on. Find a way. If there is not a path, then make one. And don’t go it alone. Get the support you need. Find someone you trust. Ask for their feedback and support. Why make life harder than it has to be? When you go it alone, you make it that way.
Keep on keeping on!

Courage and perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into air.-John Quincy Adams

Adversities wake up the giant within you from its slumber. Problems are solutions to promotion in disguise. People are bound to criticise you based on what they know and think they know. Unfortunately, what they know may be wrong. Listening to every form of criticism will lead you nowhere. Criticisms are good especially when they come from experts. They stimulate our thinking process.

Don't give up on your goals because someone said it can't be done. If you give up now, someone somewhere else will prove you and your advisers wrong by achieving that same dream you gave up.

I urge you now to take some to time to reflect and do a check-in with who you are. Are you happy with yourself? Are you in integrity? Who do you want to be? If something or someone has been stopping from taking the above steps, just simply begin and watch what comes your way.

Be true to who you are and expect to have a delightful future!

So soon…It’s Lent Again

Having Ash Wednesday begin so soon again in February makes it difficult for me to understand. I usually accept the fact that I must just roll with it. Ready or not, Lent is here and I will accept that and keep on doing the best I can!

The Heavy Burdens We Carry »

I have been thinking a great deal about my experience at Reconciliation this past Saturday. I felt an intense and unexplainable urge to go and confess my sins when I woke up that morning. I try to go every six weeks or so, but this was no routine visit to the priest for me. I needed to unburden myself of the numerous venial sins I had committed since I last participated in this Sacrament.

Purest Gold: God's Refining Fire in our Lives »

After salvation, many young Christians wonder if there's anything more to their newfound faith than just the security blanket of "being a Christian." Time and time again, God shows himself as a "refiner," and our lives are as gold. God started leading me in this study to understand what He was doing in my life, as well as in the lives of others.

When Your Faith Is Put to the Test - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon»

Friends, we come now to the Second Sunday of Lent, and we’re on both dangerous and very holy ground with the first reading from the twenty-second chapter of Genesis. The ancient Israelites referred to it as the “Akedah,” which means the “binding”: Abraham binds and is ready to sacrifice Isaac at God’s command.
