Sunday, 15th January, 2017 will forever be a memorable day for members of my parish. We have a tradition of having days which we celebrate by bringing our foods together and have a sharing. We do this especially on Easter Monday or Boxing Day, but this great day was a special anniversary of the parish.
On this special occasion we were all dressed in our traditional attires and brought our traditional menus. It was a beautiful sight to behold especially for someone like me who loves to see people dressed gaily, and i loved the food too. The array of food was quite tempting. You will be confused and wonder where to start from.
Surely we had an enjoyable event but what struck me most was the free movement of the people and the joy on their faces. The children of God were really happy sharing what they had together. Where you have not visited a table you were called in with love and laughter.
At a time, I sat down to see if there was anyone holding back. No, instead, I saw everyone having a jolly moment. You would always see someone in one group moving into another with laughter. Love filled the air.
Then, I thought this was how God had wanted us to live. One of the books of the Bible actually expressed this. Where you have more than one of an item then you share the extra, giving to someone who does not have.
Contrary to how God wants us to live we hold on to the abundance God has blessed us with. Siblings cannot even share with each other rather we see rivalry or prejudice. Ask yourself, why one would want to earn a monthly salary that one knows can pay about ten people for one whole year in a situation where monthly salary payments are in deficit.
I admonish each one of us to make a difference this year. Look around you and share with people around you starting with your family, staff and your community. You do not need the cars, houses and luxuries you are acquiring. Your children will have to work and earn their living, that is how God has planned our world. Share, share and share until you can feel it, and I assure you, your tomorrow is secured. Live the will of God and be a winner in Christ.
I have been thinking a great deal about my experience at Reconciliation this past Saturday. I felt an intense and unexplainable urge to go and confess my sins when I woke up that morning. I try to go every six weeks or so, but this was no routine visit to the priest for me. I needed to unburden myself of the numerous venial sins I had committed since I last participated in this Sacrament.
Purest Gold: God's Refining Fire in our Lives »
After salvation, many young Christians wonder if there's anything more to their newfound faith than just the security blanket of "being a Christian." Time and time again, God shows himself as a "refiner," and our lives are as gold. God started leading me in this study to understand what He was doing in my life, as well as in the lives of others.
Picking up my pen to write this column, I couldn’t imagine how time flies. Since the last publication of this column I have gone through a lot, especially the loss of my dear mother to whom I dedicate this article. Not only her, but seems I lost a whole generation of my close family.

When Your Faith Is Put to the Test - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon»
Friends, we come now to the Second Sunday of Lent, and we’re on both dangerous and very holy ground with the first reading from the twenty-second chapter of Genesis. The ancient Israelites referred to it as the “Akedah,” which means the “binding”: Abraham binds and is ready to sacrifice Isaac at God’s command.
